Art with Ms. Seckendorf: In art there are so many possibilities and ways to arrive at solutions to design problems- art isn’t made from only one recipe. Students get to explore their world, interests, creative problem solving skills, and further develop their visual literacy skills. An arts education is an important balance to each child’s education and human development. In art class I will provide opportunities for students to think critically and to develop their own unique creative solutions to open-ended problems. Students are encouraged to develop using their personal background, beliefs, and ideas to find their voice in art. Participating in art will give students a safe space to try new things, create multiple solutions, strengthen fine motor skills, practice creative problem solving skills, learn from the world around them, and strengthen self discipline. |
A little about your art teacher:
I graduated from the University of Wisconsin- Madison with an art degree in jewelry/ metalsmithing. I then worked as a jeweler for 10 years before receiving my teaching certificate at Metro State. I just earned my Master of Arts degree from Regis University, specializing in large woven sculpture. I have been an art teacher for 20 years- first as a resident summer camp art counselor in college, then I taught jewelry/ small metal sculpture at The College of Marin for 4 years and Metro State in Denver, then I taught jewelry and other art forms at Legacy High School and Thornton High School for a combined 14 years. Now I teach drawing/ painting/ ceramics/ sculpture/ basic art at Westlake Middle School. Each and every year I am enthusiastic to see all my students design, plan, and create their art with a variety of materials. |
